| Family fun night at Gawler Cup
A great family night of entertainment will feature at Gawler Landscaping Supplies Sportspark this Friday night (April 13) as the Gawler Harness Racing Club hosts the 2007 Carlton–Fosters Group Gawler Cup. The 2007 edition of Cup night is once again a major part of the Steinborner Holden Gawler Horse Festival (see page 25). A top group of the state's best horses will compete for the $8000 purse on Friday night, with many performing well in lead-up races over last weekend. Nicky Anvil was back to his front-running best at Globe Derby on Saturday night, before two other possible Gawler Cup chances, Time Is Ticking and Nutfield, battled out the claimer later in the night. On Sunday night at the same track, Sunrise Music Man handled the stand start perfectly in the Strathalbyn Cup and collected the silverware with a comfortable win.
Tom Funke to talk about adding wildlife to your own back yard
"While you may not be a skilled artist, there is a living canvas which you can personally adorn with real cardinals, bluebirds, deer and ducks - the landscape" so states Carrol Henderson in his book "Landscaping for Wildlife." This book is recommended by wildlife expert, Tom Funke, who uses an ecological approach in his many efforts to support wildlife. We all can create landscapes with many plant species and hardscape to support an abundance of beautiful wildlife. Funke will be speaking at a community-wide meeting on April 3, 2007. He will discuss the four basic needs of wildlife - food, water, shelter and space. He will share ecological concepts necessary to fulfill the major habitat needs of specific wildlife. And, will even touch on what can be done on farmland to provide for wildlife.
Some dog owners are disgraceful
I have absolutely had it. I wrote a letter a while back complaining about people that could not shovel snow all winter, or pick up their dog's fecal matter. I was surprised at the positive response that came back. We had some beautiful weather a few weeks ago, and I could not understand where all the flies were coming from. "POOP." My front boulevard was loaded with dog "POOP." It was sick. As I proceeded down the sidewalk, my neighbours boulevard was covered, and if you think that's gross, the weeds are so bad, the dog won't poo on the lawn anymore, so he poops on the sidewalk. There had to have been about 15 piles, and the flies were all over it. I have said nothing, and done nothing....... Until today, my lovely walk to the bus stop. Three more "large" fresh piles, on my boulevard, and some old ones on my lawn, "MY LAWN" where my day care children play.
Protect the garden lawn with home insurance
Green-fingered Britons are being advised to make sure their home insurance extends to the garden to protect high value items such as lawnmowers and garden furniture.According to the Daily Mail, the value of many gardens now amounts to thousands rather than hundreds of pounds, with burgled items ranging from decorative pots to entire lawns. The publication states that garden furniture and equipment should fall under home insurance policies, however some will not cover plants and others will have strict limits on how much they will pay out.In order to avoid having to claim on a home insurance policy at all, the publication suggests that statues, pots and urns are secured with chains, while planting thorny shrubs around the garden's perimeter should help to deter thieves.Sheds should be kept padlocked and secure and tools should not be left on show, it adds.Co-operative Insurance recently urged householders to make sure their home insurance covers the garden as summertime nears and rises in crime are predicted.Householders receive up to £500 contents cover for their garden as part of their home insurance policy with Kwik-Fit Insurance.© Adfero Ltd Other Recent Home insurance Articles'Protect items outside the house with home insurance' Home insurance firm: Brits waste £1bn waiting for tradespeople Business owners advised on home insurance .
